On January 15, 2025, the Shabu Celadon Site was included in China's Tentative List for World Cultural Heritage, taking a step toward World Cultural Heritage status.
Discovery and Excavation
The site, located in Huangyan District, Taizhou, Zhejiang, was first discovered in 1956. Excavations since 2018 have uncovered seven celadon sites, including Zhujialing, around Phoenix Mountain.
Porcelain Production and Significance
Active from the Late Tang Dynasty, the Shabu celadon thrived during the Song Dynasty, connecting the Yue and Longquan Celadons. Its celadon was widely traded, illustrating cultural exchanges.
Importance
The Shabu Celadon’s discovery fills the gap in the transition from Yue to Longquan Celadons, providing vital insights into Zhejiang’s Song Dynasty celadon production.
Heritage and Experience
The Huangyan Museum features Shabu celadon, and the Shabu Zhujialing Celadon Cultural Exhibition Hall offers visitors hands-on celadon-making experiences.
